VNA & Hospice of Southern CA
POSITION TITLE: Fund Development Director

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

POSITION SCOPE: The Fund Development Director is a leadership position responsible for ensuring a viable, varied, innovative and sustainable revenue base to support the programs of the VNA and Hospice of Southern California. As a member of the management team, this position requires demonstrated experience in developing and managing a comprehensive fund development program, including major/capital gift programs. This position is also responsible for overseeing the annual fundraising, special events and public relations as it relates to fund development.

The Fund Development Director reports to the President/CEO

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

The position requires a
• Bachelor’s degree in management, communication/marketing or related field or equivalent work experience
• A minimum of 5 years development experience in a professional position and a successful demonstrated management track record.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Experience in on-line giving strategies, websites and social networking.
• Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a comprehensive fund development program (including capital campaigns) and producing charitable contributions.
• Experience managing non-profit fundraising fundamentals including motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, donor stewardship, and standard fundraising techniques including face to face solicitation, proposal writing, special events and direct mail/annual fund;
• Knowledge and management experience of Development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, donor database management, fundraising reporting and communication and donor recognition.
• Demonstrated experience and confidence in asking people for monetary and in-kind contributions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Visual/hearing ability sufficient to initiate and comprehend written/verbal communications.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS:
1. Develop an annual and long-term development plan including direction, timeline and scope for the all fundraising activities.
2. Manage the Fund Development department.
3. Research and propose new, innovative fundraising opportunities to enhance and expand annual fund and major gifts program.
4. Be up to date on developments in philanthropy and fund development as well as the general fields of management and the not-for-profit sector; inform the President of current trends, issues, problems and activities in order to facilitate policy making. Recommend policy development and changes concerning fund development.
5. Coordinate, plan and implement special events.
6. Oversee initiatives and develop opportunities to enhance and expand the annual fund.
7. Maintain accurate donor database. Provide timely reports to the President and Fundraising Committee. Study and evaluate giving records according to donor types and trends to determine opportunities to enhance relationships with donors.
8. Develop and maintain a donor appreciation program continually seeking new and innovative ways to thank and engage donors of all levels.
9. Identify, cultivate, and solicit sponsorships, corporate, foundation and in-kind gifts.
10. Identify, cultivate and development marketing partnerships and third party fundraising opportunities to increase annual fund.
11. Create and manage a planned giving program through analyzing gift history, creating and implementing a marketing plan, and conducting on-going outreach for different planned giving options and attracting prospect donors to the organization
12. Responsible for maintaining/enhancing the VNA website and other online methods regarding the dissemination of VNA information and enhance on-line giving.
13. Identify, cultivate, recruit, and develop fundraising volunteers.
14. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws maintains accountability standards to donors and ensures compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives.
15. Current California driver’s license and CA auto liability insurance.
16. Must hold at all times a satisfactory DMV driving record in accordance with VNA insurance
company criteria
17. Adheres to agency policies and procedures.
18. Demonstrates a positive, flexible, customer comes first attitude.
19. All other duties as assigned.
